Light A Candle For Peace Lyrics

Light a candle for peace
Light a candle for love
Light a candle that shines all away around the world
Light a candle for me
Light a candle for you
That our wish for world peace
Will one day come true

Light a candle for peace
Light a candle for love
Light a candle that shines all away around the world
Light a candle for me
Light a candle for you
That our wish for world peace
Will one day come true

Sing peace around the world
Sing peace around the world
Sing peace around the world
Sing peace around the world

On September 21, 2009, at 11 a.m., children from The Children’s Garden will sing “Light a Candle for Peace” in celebration of the United Nations’ annual International Day of Peace.

Beginning in New Zealand and finishing in the Hawaiian Islands, the song “Light a Candle for Peace” will be sung continuously for 24 hours by Montessori schoolchildren around the world.

“Our school is excited about joining the many other Montessori schools to “Sing Peace Around the World,” stated Directress Jean Passantino. “It is a chance to connect our regular lessons of encouraging the children to treat each other with respect and dignity. To show compassion, patience, and kindness to others are values nurtured in the Montessori environment as the children work together each day for a peaceful classroom. In the words of Maria Montessori, ‘The child is both the hope and promise for mankind.’”

Every year on the International Day of Peace, people throughout the world gather to reiterate the sentiment of world peace, to remember the victims of conflict, and to rededicate themselves to the age-old quest of building a safer and more just world. According to the United Nations Department of Public Information, Peace and Security Section, the International Day of Peace is observed every year on 21 September, as “a day of global ceasefire and non-violence”. Twenty-four hours: to give relief workers a safe interlude for the provision of vital services; to offer mediators a building block towards a wider truce; to allow all those engaged in conflict to reconsider the wisdom of further violence.
